Motherly Counsel at a Baptism
Adam asked his mom and grandma to speak at his baptism. First his mom shared two scripture stories. 1) The story of Jesus' baptism from the New Testament. 2) The story of the people of Alma in the Book of Mormon who desired to be baptized. Then she praised Adam for his desire to follow Jesus' example and get baptized. Finally, she encouraged him to keep the promises he was making that day and to look for the blessings he would receive from doing so.
Remember the promises you make at baptism:
- Keep the commandments.
- Always remember Jesus.
- Take His name upon you.
Remember the blessings promised you if you keep your promises:
- Forgiveness of your sins
- Gift of the Holy Ghose
- Eternal life
Next Gigi (aka Grandma) shared how special the Gift of the Holy Ghost is and encouraged him to look for ways the Holy Ghost would help him.
- Testify of Truth
- Warn of Danger
- Prompt to Do Good
- Comfort and Bring Peace
This baptism was a family affair, with Josh holding the visual aid for his mother's talk, Robyn and cousin Michael serving as witnesses, Brooke playing the piano for a special musical number, Aunt Macy leading the music, Grandpa giving the closing prayer, and Grandma (me) playing the piano. Oh, and Dad/Bishop conducted the meeting and performed the baptism and confirmation. What a special meeting it was! We're grateful for the opportunity to participate, and even more grateful for the love and acceptance that was felt by all. We hope Adam always remembers his special day!
