Alma 7:11-13

Alma 7

11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.

12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.

13 Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me.

This was the passage we read for family scripture study last night. We really like the quote we found by Elder Neal A. Maxwell. Maybe one of you will like it as well.

“Can we, even in the depths of disease, tell [Jesus] anything at all about suffering?  In ways we cannot comprehend, our sicknesses and infirmities were borne by Him even before they were borne by us.  The very weight of our combined sins caused Him to descend below all.  We have never been, nor will we be, in depths such as He has known.  Thus His atonement made perfect His empathy and His mercy and His capacity to succor us, for which we can be everlastingly grateful as He tutors us in our trials.”
Neal A. Maxwell, Even As I Am, page 116

Remember (from the little blurb to the side) that this is the picture hanging in the hall outside my bedroom door when I was a teenager? I'm so grateful my parents worked hard to teach us of Jesus Christ and to help us gain a testimony of Him, and of the power of His Atonement, and of the peace and happiness that come from living His gospel and obeying His commandments.
