Attribute #11 - Cooperation
Joseph Fred Hug
1900 - 1975
Cooperation: Working together for a common purpose; joint action
Ephesians 4:16
From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
The scriptures don't contain the word "cooperation" (at least, not that I could find), but I figure this scripture goes quite well with building a truck. Here are a couple more that go a bit better with building our lives.
Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
D&C 90:24
Search diligently, pray always, and be believing, and all things shall work together for your good, if ye walk uprightly and remember the covenant wherewith ye have covenanted one with another.
I spent a couple of hours trying to find the piece of paper we had with information on this grandfather of Wayne's but without success. (I did, however, find lots of other interesting and intriguing pictures and documents, and it's going to take a lot of will power to set those aside until after Christmas!) I picked cooperation because we knew Joseph was part of a family business that built trucks. While I couldn't find anything on Joseph, I did find quite a bit of information on his cousin C.J. who started The Hug Company in the 1920's. We'll just imagine that he hired his cousin, and that they had to cooperate to make it a successful venture. I'll come back and update this when I find that paper I know we have!
You can read more about the company here and here and here and here. I particularly like this article which contains a story of how in his old age C.J. loaned his tools and helped another man get his business started. Mentoring is a great form of cooperation. I also found a FaceBook page dedicated to Hug Trucks, along with a blog post.
So, no picture of Joseph Hug, but you did get some pictures of Hug trucks. And here's one of his cousin, C.J. Hug.
Last year's attribute - Obedience
Note: It didn't really connect until after planning this little series, that Wayne had a step-grandfather. His grandmother and Joseph Hug were divorced, and she later married William Pulley. All Wayne really remembers about him is that he was a security guard in a candy factory, and that he was in a rest home for years. I guess we need to do a bit more research in order to choose a Christ-like attribute for him!
