Elder Cook

Elder Quentin L. Cook

Some repeating themes I noticed - teach children, follow the prophet, trials and adversity, music and harmony, references to England (where he served his mission), civility in relationships, avoiding distractions, temples, ordinances and covenants, preparing to meet God.

"Prophets are inspired to provide us with prophetic priorities to protect us from danger."

"The refiner's fire is real, and qualities of character and righteousness that are forged in the furnace of affliction perfect and purify us and prepare us to meet God."

"If we allow our culture to reduce the special relationships that children have with mothers and grandmothers and others who nurture them, we will come to regret it."

"There is a seriousness of purpose that must undergird our approach to life and all our choices. Distractions and rationalizations that limit progress are harmful enough, but when they diminish faith in Jesus Christ and His Church, they are tragic."

I actually have a personal interaction story to relate concerning Elder Cook. He came to Florida during the Fort Lauderdale Temple open house to personally conduct the tours for some dignitaries, including Governor Scott, other elected officials, and a group of Jewish leaders. As one of the people responsible for making sure those tours flowed smoothly, I got to inconspicuously follow along. What a treat to hear a living apostle answer heartfelt questions and bear testimony of the truths of the gospel!
