Elder Renlund

Elder Dale G. Renlund

Conference talks by Elder Renlund (first two before being ordained an apostle)

Elder Renlund served in an African area presidency while one of our sons was a missionary there. That teeny, tiny connection (which I'm reminded of every time he mentions the saints in Africa) helps him feel a bit like family.

Here are some of his quotes that are memorable or meaningful to me:

"A saint is a sinner who keeps on trying."

"To effectively serve others we must see them through Heavenly Father's eyes."

"Our Heavenly Father’s goal in parenting is not to have His children do what is right; it is to have His children choose to do what is right and ultimately become like Him. If He simply wanted us to be obedient, He would use immediate rewards and punishments to influence our behaviors. But God is not interested in His children just becoming trained and obedient 'pets' who will not chew on His slippers in the celestial living room. No, God wants His children to grow up spiritually and join Him in the family business."

Elder Renlund is a good story teller (firecrackers in the church building), often refers to literature (Mary Poppins and Les Miserables) and shares memorable analogies (Congo River and rocket payloads).
