Connecticut to California
In 1932 the Lewis family moved from Connecticut to California. Dot's memories of the train ride include:
- Crossing the New Washington Bridge
- Getting fresh cow's milk
- Sleeping on a mattress (the family had two rooms/berths
- "Indianapolis is sure a big city!"
- Animals on the farms
- Wonderful colors of Arizona
Family memories suggest the family first arrived in California the year earlier, but because Frank didn't have a job, the government gave the kids a pair of pajamas and put them on the train back to Connecticut.

Her descendants appreciate the sacrifice to "make a place for you and me." That sacrifice and faith give us a greater feeling of love. We have examples in the scriptures of those who left their "stuff" like Lehi. He was led by the Liahona; we have the Holy Ghost. Yes, there is a loving Heavenly Father. Through His Son, Jesus Christ, we can receive eternal life. We will then look back and see the roads we traveled and know the sacrifices we made created a better world.
