An Old Letter
I loved learning that even when Mom was busy raising young children, in addition to serving in the church (in the ward Primary presidency), she was working on genealogy. In her files, I found a copy of a letter she wrote to her mom in 1967, complete with Grandma's answers.
I love that when they were "confused" they continued searching for answers, and even when their first answers weren't quite correct, they didn't give up. Over the years more details have emerged. Just in case you're wondering, here are the current answers.
Aunt Evelyn's (grandmother's sister) first marriage occurred in 1934 in New York; she later divorced Lawrence Pratt and married Joseph Ferony in 1953.
Uncle Herb (grandmother's brother) was married 28 October 1938 in Connecticut.
Aunt Annie (grandmother's aunt on her dad's side) died 26 October 1965 in Alameda County, California.
Uncle Robert Kerr Wilson (Aunt Annie's brother) died 18 February 1958 in Ireland. The official death certificate gives cause as pneumonia, but also mentions heart disease; maybe he really did die of a heart attack, or maybe that's just what the family remembers.
I would love to discover the "photo copy of white on black of a handwritten pedigree" that was mentioned, but I imagine it's long gone. However, it's nice to know it's what "Father Wilson scribbled while in hospital." Grandma called him Father Wilson, because she was adopted and raised by the Lewis family, and didn't meet her biological father James until she was an adult. Isn't that a fascinating tidbit of information?
I'm surmising that John P. Wilson's mother might be Annie Blodborn, but fifty years later we still have no proof of that. His father is a James Wilson. The Monteith line comes from Grandmother's mother's family. We may have to wait until the millennium to fill in the blanks on her pedigree chart!
