Mother's Day Poetry - Part Three

What is it about mothers that makes us want to try our hand at poetry? Over years, we've gathered several poems about mothers, and here's the latest discovery. This was written by me sometime in the late 1980's, and included in simple cards that we used in Primary. We printed the poem on the left side of a half sheet of paper, inserted it into a half sheet of construction paper, punched a couple of holes, and tied them together with yarn.  On the right side of the paper, and also the front of the card, the children drew pictures and/or wrote notes to their moms. What would you have said or drawn?

Thank You, Mother

Mother I'm grateful,
     yes, it is true,
For all of the things
that you've taught me to do.

Cooking and cleaning,
     spelling and math,
Following Jesus
     along the right path.

Sometimes I wonder
why you spend so much time,
When all of your effort
     brings not even a dime.

The answer's so simple,
     why didn't I see?
You spend the time teaching
     because you love me.
