A New Story for a Baptism

I was asked to give the talk on the Holy Ghost for Lynelle's baptism. And the Holy Ghost helped me remember a story I haven't shared yet!

When I was about nine or ten years old, my sister (who is a year younger) and I got permission to walk a few blocks on our own to the neighborhood drugstore to buy an ice cream cone. (You could get one for five cents then!) We felt so grown up since this necessitated leaving our subdivision and crossing one "major" street. On the way back, a group of boys a couple of years older than us surrounded us and started teasing and harassing us. We felt uncomfortable and afraid. However, we were prompted by the Holy Ghost to just ignore them and keep walking. After a couple of minutes, they left us alone and went away. However, I recall we were too embarrassed to mention the incident to our mother.

However, what makes this story memorable is that while I was having difficulty getting to sleep that night, the Holy Ghost inspired Mom to come in and ask me if something was wrong. She told me about the prompting, I shared my feelings, she comforted me, and I was able to fall asleep quickly. The Holy Ghost really is a protector, a guide, and a comforter.

I was also prompted to share Wayne's story of the Holy Ghost telling him to change lanes while driving on the freeway one day when he was a teenager. He did, and immediately the mattress in the bed of the pickup truck he had been behind flew out. It would have landed on his windshield if he hadn't obeyed the prompting.

From the Bible Dictionary: The gift of the Holy Ghost is the right to have, whenever one is worthy, the companionship of the Holy Ghost.

Remember 2 Nephi 32:5 - "If ye will enter in by the way, and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all things what ye should do."
