Charity: Generous actions, benevolence, Christian love

1 Corinthians 13:13
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Moroni 7:45-48
And charity suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, if ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth. Wherefore, cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail—
But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ.

Charity is the first word that comes to mind when I think of Grandma Louise, or Sister Glen as my family first knew her. Maybe that's because she spent years volunteering with Red Cross and performed countless charitable acts. However, it's more likely I feel that way because she just radiated the light of Christ. Whenever you were around her, you could feel not only her love, but God's love. She made people feel welcomed and appreciated, no matter what. She's one of my heroes, and I hope to be more like her someday.

She became Grandmother Whitaker in 1973 when she married Wayne's grandfather after both of their first spouses had passed away, and she played a major role in my own "how we met" love story. (See here and here and here even here.)

a 1992 visit

I'm grateful that four of our boys were able to spend time with her, and I hope all of our children and grandchildren will remember her example and follow it. That will help them to become more like their Savior.
